I’ve been kind of busy since my last post. Yes, I know it’s been more than two years. So here’s the short version of what I’ve been up to.
I graduated from Dominican with my MLIS in August 2009. I had a bunch of things happen at the same time as when I graduated. I had been working as a document manager and docketing clerk for a patent and trademark law firm across the street from the Sears Tower. I was laid off the same week I graduated. While I was at the law firm, I was working a part time job at Dominican’s library as a reference librarian. That job ended the same week.
As most people, I found myself unemployed with no job prospects. I got a holiday job at Best Buy and very quickly found out what a lousy place it is to work. A couple of weeks after I started there, I got a permanent part time job at Lowes. I was there from November 2009 through April 2010.
I got very lucky at the beginning of April 2010 when a recruiter from TEK Systems called me for a contract position. I went on the interview and two days later had a permanent contract position as a professional researcher and technical writer. I’ve been there ever since and plan to stay as long as they will have me. I’d tell you where and who I work for but then I would have to kill you. Seriously, I’m not allowed to tell people who I work for. Let’s just say that I finally have a position where my sole purpose isn’t to help screw others over while helping my employer make gobs of money. My job is interesting, challenging and fulfilling, a first for me. Most days I go home exhausted but satisfied. I’ve had the opportunity to use my past work experience as an analyst and tester and combine it with the research and writing portion of my job.
I’ve been very busy with knitting and crocheting. This past Christmas I made something for almost everyone in the family. The pictures are posted separately. While I was in school at Dominican, I joined a meet up group through meetup.com. The ladies in this group are pretty awesome! The name of the group is Stitchcraft. We meet a couple of times a month in Oak Park, at the HIP (Harlem-Irving Plaza) and recently in Evanston and Skokie. I encourage anyone who’s into crafting to join us.
